Performing Arts - BAND - Mr. Gregory Dukes
The Band Program at Mainland High School consists of an outstanding marching, concert, and symphonic band, along with an undisputed drumline. The Mainland High School Marching Buccaneer Band has performed at Disney World, The Macy's Parade in New York, Competitions in Atlanta, the Battle of the Bands at the Florida Classic, and much more. The Band is heavily involved in our Daytona Beach community and performs at many local parades and community events, in addition to promoting Mainland High School school spirit at pep rallies, pep jams, football, basketball, and volleyball games. The Mainland High School Buccaneer Band strives on excellence and our non-negotiable is "SUPERIOR". We are the superior rated marching and concert bands. We have also maintained our superior status at the Florida Band Master's Association Music Performance Assessment by receiving straight superiors in performance!
Performing Arts - DANCE - Mrs. Shelly Mahaffey Warren
The Dance Program at Mainland High School consists of classes offering Dance Technique Levels 1, 2, 3, and 4, and our Elite Teams that represent Mainland in the community: the Mainland Auxiliaries. The Mainland Auxiliaries are made up of the Lady Bucs Dance and Drill Team (Audition Only Dance Team), Majorettes (Audition Only Baton Team), and the Mirage Color Guard (Audition Only Flag Team).
The Mainland Dance Program is SUPERIOR rated four years running via the Volusia County Dance Performance Assessment that takes place each spring.
The Mainland Auxiliaries received SUPERIOR ratings throughout the 2019-2020 Competition Season and their accolades include the following:
- Florida Bandmasters Association Marching Performance Assessment Superior rating for our 2019 Halftime Show
- 2nd Place in High Kick and 5th Place in Pom for our Lady Bucs Dance and Drill Team at Contest of Champions Nationals
- State Champion Officer Line in Jazz, Lyrical, and Hip Hop for the Lady Bucs at the Marching Auxiliary Florida State Competition
- State Champion Twirl Team and Technique Recognition for the Majorettes at the Marching Auxiliary Florida State Competition
- State Champion Flag Team for the Mirage Color Guard at Marching Auxiliary Florida State Competition
Performing Arts - CHORUS - Mr. Jack Wright
The Chorus Program at Mainland High School consists of approximately one hundred motivated students. This year we performed at the District Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA) for the second consecutive year. We also perform annually at Mainland's Winter Showcase, The Music Department Spring Concert and other school and community functions. This season we are proud to announce that we had a student audition and earn a place in All State Choir! We are very proud of all our students' accomplishments individually and as a group! In Mainland's Chorus Program, our voices are stronger as one.
Performing Arts - ORCHESTRA - Mr. Jack Wright
The Orchestra program at Mainland High School is a well balanced ensemble consisting of Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass. This year we performed at District Concert Music Performance Assessment (MPA) as well as Mainland's Winter Showcase. Our students also perform in the community and at other school events to showcase their talent throughout the season. Orchestra students participated in the District Solo and Ensemble contest and several students also participated in the All-County Orchestra rehearsals. Orchestra provides an excellent place for advanced students to practice their leadership skills and novice players to learn from their highly trained peers! We look forward to growing together even more next year!
Performing Arts - DRAMA - Ms. Carrie Van Tol
The Drama Department at Mainland High School consists of students enrolled in our Theatre 1, 2, 3, and 4 classes, as well as students involved in Drama Club. The Theatre classes are designed to promote appreciation for all aspects of the theatre. These classes explore theatre literature, performance, historical and cultural connections, and technical requirements. The Drama Club is an all-inclusive club that participates in performances of all types, including Holiday Shows, Spring Musicals, Thespian Competitions, and more!
